Dr. John Oliffe is a Professor and Associate Director Research at the School of Nursing at the University of British Columbia. As founder and lead investigator of UBC's Men's Health Research program http://menshealthresearch.ubc.ca/ , his work focuses on masculinities as it influences men's health behaviours and illness management, and its impact on partners, families and overall life quality. Findings drawn from his research offer guidance to clinicians and researchers to advance men's health promotion in the areas of psychosocial prostate cancer care, smoking cessation and male depression and suicide prevention. His research has also informed the design of a suite of tailored men's community based and e-health interventions. Dr. Oliffe has attracted over $27 million in research funding and published 300 peer reviewed journal articles and book chapters advancing gender theory in addressing wide ranging men's health issues with through innovative methods including photovoice. A research advisory board member for the Public Health Agency of Canada, he is also contributing to the development of a Canadian suicide prevention policy amid providing direction for addressing male health inequities in mental health policy and practice developments.
