Dr. Norliza Chemi is a Consultant Addiction Psychiatrist. She completed her Master in Psychiatry at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in 2004. She received her MBBCH.BAO.BA (medical degree) from Trinity College Dublin in 1997. She acquired her training for subspecialty in Addiction Psychiatry and worked in Sydney from 2007 to 2009. She was awarded Fellowship in Addiction by Ministry of Health, Malaysia. 2014, she received her short training in Treatment of Amphetamine Abuse in University of Adelaide.

 

She started Addiction Unit in Hospital Kajang, and currently serves as the Head of Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health. She was a visiting psychiatrist at National Anti Drug Agency Center at Sg. Besi and Sg. Buloh Prison.

Her special interest is Dual Diagnosis i.e.  Co-occurrence Substance Use Disorder and Psychiatric Disorder. She is often invited to conferences to share her expertise. She involves in many clinical researches and had published articles. She is the chairperson for development of Guideline on Hostage Negotiation for Mental Health professionals.

She is active in advocating the issues of illicit substance abuse and mental health issues related to it. She is a member of National Board Task Force for Prevention and Treatment of Addiction. Dr. Chemi actively support activities regarding of mental health. She was the Head Coordinator of the Psychological Trauma Support team for the families of victims of MH17 and MH370 tragedies; and Head Coordinator of Psychological Team of Crisis Response for SEA GAMES 2017 event.
